Why adults choose Opus 1 for cello

Lessons built around your goals, your pace, and your schedule.

4.9 average across 687 verified reviews from Opus 1 families and adult students.

The instrument adults fall for

The cello's deep, vocal tone is consistently the reason adult students pick it — and playing it is a deeply absorbing, screen-free creative outlet.

Comfortable to play

You play seated with the cello resting against you, a natural position for adults that avoids the standing posture some other strings require.

Chamber and orchestra await

Cellists are always in demand. Many adult students build toward community orchestra or amateur chamber groups, and your teacher prepares you for exactly that.

No pressure, no contract

Recitals are always optional for adults. Tuition is month-to-month with no annual contract — start with a trial lesson and continue only if it’s a fit.

Adult cello lesson FAQs

What adults ask before starting cello lessons.

Do you teach complete adult beginners on cello?

Yes — many of our adult cello students start with no experience at all. The cello's comfortable seated position and warm sound make it a welcoming instrument to begin as an adult. Lessons start with bow control, posture, and simple melodies, then build intonation and reading at a pace that fits your schedule and goals.

Am I too old to start cello lessons?

No — Opus 1 teaches cello to adults of every age, and many of our adult students start in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond. There is no upper age limit and no prior experience required. Adults often progress faster than they expect because they practice with intention and bring clear goals to each lesson.

How much do adult cello lessons cost?

Adult cello lessons use the same monthly membership tuition as all private lessons — $265 to $595 per month for one weekly lesson, depending on lesson length and teacher level (Standard, Senior, or Master). Adult lessons run 45 or 60 minutes, so an adult trial lesson is $35 for 45 minutes or $45 for 60 minutes. Tuition is a flat amount each month, including months with five lessons, and there is no annual contract.

Can I schedule cello lessons around a full-time job?

Yes. Opus 1 operates seven days a week year-round, with weekday evening and weekend availability that works well for adults balancing work and family. You hold one consistent weekly time slot, and our full-time front-desk staff helps you find a teacher and a time that fits your schedule.

Where can I take adult cello lessons near me?

Opus 1 teaches adult cello lessons in person at two campuses — Palo Alto (3401 El Camino Real) and Mountain View (1350 Grant Road). Both are convenient across the mid-Peninsula and South Bay, with on-site parking and evening and weekend availability. Pick the campus closest to you to book an adult trial lesson.
