What age can my child start cello lessons in Palo Alto?
Opus 1 starts private cello lessons at age 6 at our Palo Alto Campus. Children under that age are welcome to join Music for Young Children, our group program starting at age 3, which builds the rhythm, pitch, and ear-training foundation that makes private cello lessons successful when the student is ready. A short trial lesson is the easiest way to confirm a child is developmentally prepared.
Do you offer cello lessons for adults in Palo Alto?
Yes — Opus 1 teaches cello to adults of every level at our Palo Alto Campus, from complete beginners to returning players picking the cello back up. Adult students set their own goals, choose the styles they care about, and schedule weekly private lessons around work. An adult trial lesson runs 45 minutes for $35 or 60 minutes for $45, so you can meet a teacher before committing — and there's no annual contract.
How much do cello lessons cost in Palo Alto?
Trial cello lessons at Opus 1 start at $25 for 30 minutes (reserved for children under 8), $35 for 45 minutes, or $45 for 60 minutes. Monthly membership for one weekly private lesson ranges from $265 to $595 depending on lesson length and teacher level (Standard, Senior, or Master). Tuition is the same flat amount each month, including months with five lessons.
Do you offer ABRSM, Certificate of Merit, or exam preparation for cello?
Yes — Opus 1 cello teachers prepare students for ABRSM, RCM, and Certificate of Merit exams, plus orchestra auditions for school programs, the California Youth Symphony, El Camino Youth Symphony, and All-State.
Do I need to own a cello before starting lessons?
Yes — students need a properly-sized cello at home within the first month. Cellos come in fractional sizes from 1/10 through full size; your teacher will measure the student at the trial lesson. Renting is strongly recommended for younger students since most outgrow their cello every 1–2 years.
