About Young-Rang
For Young-Rang Song, singing is more than creating beautiful sound. It is about discovering one’s unique voice and learning to communicate with authenticity and confidence. With more than 30 years of experience as a performer and educator, Ms. Song helps students develop healthy vocal technique, musicianship, confidence, and expressive skills, guiding them to become expressive and confident performers.
Her teaching philosophy is simple:
“Healthy breathing creates a free voice, a free voice allows authentic expression, and authentic expression transforms singing into meaningful communication.”
Through breath coordination, resonance, musicianship, and storytelling, Ms. Song helps students develop free, expressive voices connected to their own musical identity. She works with students in classical voice, musical theatre, and contemporary styles, helping each student build a strong technical foundation while discovering their unique sound and artistic voice.
Ms. Song holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Yonsei University. As a performer, she sang the title role of Carmen with the San Francisco Opera Guild and received First Prize in the Bay Area Opera League Competition. She studied with Jane Randolph, Kathryn Cathcart, and Willene Gunn, and was selected for masterclasses with internationally recognized artists Cynthia Hoffmann and Elena Obraztsova.
Her extensive experience in opera productions, concerts, and advanced vocal training allows her to bring deep musical insight and stage artistry into her teaching. Her students have earned recognition in the We Sing Pop! International Song Contest, performed at Carnegie Hall, been selected for California All-State Choir, and gained admission to respected universities and competitive music programs.
Ms. Song currently serves as Choir Director at Santa Clara Korean United Methodist Church and has also served as Music Director of the JOY Concert, a nonprofit organization dedicated to presenting benefit concerts.
