Young-Rang, Julia, and Pei-Shan at the 2025 Faculty Recital

Voice, piano, and violin came together at the 2025 Opus 1 Faculty Recital as Young-Rang, Julia, and Dr. Pei-Shan performed as an ensemble. Watch the performance and meet the three teachers.

One of the joys of the Opus 1 Faculty Recital is watching teachers from different studios — voice, piano, and strings — come together for a single performance. At the 2025 Opus 1 Faculty Recital, three of our faculty did exactly that: vocalist Young-Rang, pianist Julia, and violinist Dr. Pei-Shan. Watch their performance below.

Meet Young-Rang

Young-Rang graduated from Yonsei University with a Bachelor's degree in Voice, then earned a Master's degree in Voice from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She was chosen for the title role of Carmen in the San Francisco Opera Guild's production and took first place in the Bay Area Opera League's competition. She has performed throughout the Bay Area as a soloist and with musical groups, and continues to serve as Choir Director at the Berkeley Korean United Methodist Church and Music Director of the JOY Concert.

Meet Julia

Julia has more than 25 years of experience teaching piano to students of all ages and levels. As a professionally trained pianist she has performed in concerts and chamber music as a soloist, collaborative pianist, and accompanist — winning the SJSU Concerto Competition, performing with the SJSU Symphony Orchestra, and earning first place in the San Jose Music Study Club Competition. Her students have excelled in Certificate of Merit exams and competitions including the U.S. Open Music Competition and MTAC Solo.

Meet Dr. Pei-Shan

Dr. Pei-Shan holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a Master of Music from the Eastman School of Music, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from National Taiwan Normal University. A trained Suzuki teacher, she guides students from their first notes through competitions, exams, and auditions — with the "passion" and "patience" that define her teaching.

Study with our faculty

Ensemble performances like this one show students what's possible when musicianship is shared. At Opus 1, students learn from working performing artists and have three recitals a year to take the stage themselves.
