Mountain View violin FAQs

What Mountain View families ask before starting violin lessons.

What age can my child start violin lessons in Mountain View?

Opus 1 starts private violin lessons at age 5 at our Mountain View Grant Campus. Children under that age are welcome to join Music for Young Children, our group program starting at age 3, which builds the rhythm, pitch, and ear-training foundation that makes private violin lessons successful when the student is ready. A short trial lesson is the easiest way to confirm a child is developmentally prepared.

Do you offer violin lessons for adults in Mountain View?

Yes — Opus 1 teaches violin to adults of every level at our Mountain View Grant Campus, from complete beginners to returning players picking the violin back up. Adult students set their own goals, choose the styles they care about, and schedule weekly private lessons around work. An adult trial lesson runs 45 minutes for $35 or 60 minutes for $45, so you can meet a teacher before committing — and there's no annual contract.

How much do violin lessons cost in Mountain View?

Trial violin lessons at Opus 1 start at $25 for 30 minutes (reserved for children under 8), $35 for 45 minutes, or $45 for 60 minutes. Monthly membership for one weekly private lesson ranges from $265 to $595 depending on lesson length and teacher level (Standard, Senior, or Master). Tuition is the same flat amount each month, including months with five lessons.

Do you offer ABRSM, Certificate of Merit, or exam preparation for violin?

Yes — Opus 1 violin teachers prepare students for ABRSM, RCM, and Certificate of Merit exams, plus auditions for the California Youth Symphony, El Camino Youth Symphony, school orchestras, and All-State.

Do I need to own a violin before starting lessons?

Yes — students need a properly-sized violin within the first month of enrollment. Violins come in fractional sizes from 1/16 through full size; your teacher will measure the student at the trial lesson and recommend a local rental shop. Renting is the right starting point for most families since children outgrow sizes every 1–2 years.
