At Opus 1 Music Studio, our teachers don't just coach performances — they give them. Every year, the faculty take the stage for our Faculty Recital, a reminder to students and families that the people guiding their lessons are accomplished performing artists in their own right.
At the 2025 Opus 1 Faculty Recital, two of our string and keyboard faculty, Dr. Pei-Shan and Sylvia, performed together. Watch their performance below.
Meet Dr. Pei-Shan
Dr. Pei-Shan holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a Master of Music in Violin Performance from the Eastman School of Music, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from National Taiwan Normal University. A trained Suzuki teacher, she has worked with a wide range of students — from first-time beginners through the college level.
"Passion" and "Patience" not only sound like her name (Pei-Shan), they are the heart of her teaching. She helps students engage with music, discover their own talents, and prepare with confidence for performances, competitions, and auditions.
Meet Sylvia
Sylvia is an internationally experienced piano, violin, cello, and music theory teacher with more than 30 years of experience teaching, leading, and conducting festivals and concerts. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Violin and Piano Performance from Western Illinois University, a Master of Music in Violin Performance and Pedagogy from Texas Christian University, and the FTCL diploma as a Fellow of Trinity College London, along with long-term Suzuki teacher training under Moshe Neumann and Barbara Barber.
Her students have excelled in national competitions, college and orchestra auditions, and ABRSM and Certificate of Merit exams — but her goal is always twofold: the highest possible score and a lasting love of music.
What Pei-Shan's families say
Pei-Shan's students and parents return to the same words again and again — patient, encouraging, and deeply invested:
"Ms. Pei-Shan is amazing and we love her so much! Her passion with music is unwavering and her teaching strategies are amazing!"
"My daughter really enjoys her violin lessons with Ms. Pei-Shan. She carefully adjusts her posture and patiently corrects and encourages her during class. My daughter feels comfortable and motivated, and she always looks forward to her lessons."
"Pei-Shan is a wonderful violin teacher. She is patient, detail-oriented, and genuinely invested in her students' growth. I have been playing under her guidance for years and the discipline she instilled has stayed with me. Would absolutely recommend."
Study with our faculty
Performances like this are part of what makes Opus 1 different: students learn from working artists, and they have three recitals a year to perform on the same stage.
